Competitive District Soccer Program

Competitive District Soccer truly is a family soccer experience with players, coaches, parents and families quickly forming long lasting bonds. The sidelines become alive with energy and enthusiasm during each and every game. Families undoubtedly enjoy the experience as much as the players and coaches do!

There is also a misconception that competitive district ("travel") soccer requires significant traveling in and out of state. In reality, the program consists of eight games each season; four played in Thomaston and four played in neighboring towns within the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) Northwest District. Travel time to a game rarely exceeds 50 minutes and is often times much less.

The practice schedule will typically consist of 1-2 team practices per week and one professional soccer training session per week. Occasionally there will also be opportunities for teams to participate in exciting soccer tournaments outside of the Northwest District as well as other programs such as indoor winter soccer.

While District Soccer is a lot of fun, it is a competitive program and runs differently than in-town recreational soccer. We always aim to be competitive within the district and our goal is to ultimately feed these players into our High School teams. Players ready for district soccer know the rules of the game and are able to demonstrate the skills required for competitive play at their age level. Teams have a roster maximum that cannot be exceeded so try outs may be required to find players best suited for openings on a team. If a player does not yet possess the appropriate ability they will be encouraged to continue to play in our recreational programs in order to continue this skill building.

Other factors when considering Competitive District Soccer for your child:

  • Players are strongly encouraged to play their age. While we have some players that do play up, we find that the best results occur when players play in the correct age group.
  • Teams can be co-ed; girls can play on teams registered as a boys team but not vice versa.
  • Players are registered with the CJSA and are issued photo player passes.

We hope you will consider signing up your child for the Thomaston Soccer Club Competitive District Soccer Program. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
